The Supra Owner’s Meet – Ending My Supra Era

Okay lets talk about the Supra Era. Many have followed my bagged 1989 Toyota Supra build as it was one of my finest works. The inspo came from a few places, first, when I was a broke little car girl with a yellow IS, I lived in a little neighborhood with my mom in NPR, (if you don’t know what that stands for don’t even worry about it lol) and on my block, on the side of a house was a non-mobile, black, mark III, with grass growing up around it, but… there was just something about it! Fast forward a couple years to my Tampa Lanes days, Maxtune Wangan Midnight-well, that was my main card and when we would all line up together (it’s an arcade game where you can buy your own cars that print on these little cards and you can build and race your friends anywhere with your card/car-idk look it up).

After that I went about 15 years without more than an occasional appreciation for a clean mark III until…. I started seeing the meets in Japan with this clean style, slammed mark III Supras lined up late at night by the dock, just JDM as ever, but sooooo clean.

I had recently sold the Tezza to buy my first house and had been relatively happy with the decision (I knew I had taken that journey as far as I was supposed to). So after recently visiting south Florida where a few of my friends had recently imported cars, I started to get the urge to get another car. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted but I kept looking through importer sights for “the one”. Then I saw her…. Soupy-She was listed through a Virginia Importer, fresh off a boat from Japan. and when we facetimed, reviewed the car, realized it was old and could only be sold in certain (non-emission) states.

So she was trailered down to Florida in June, where I did her maintenance, got wheels, and before long, sent the car to Alternative Koncepts over in Tampa to chopy-chop my fenders, convinced Kam to come out of automotive retirement to teach me about bags (he was intrigued), and I slammed it like the beautiful cars in Japan. In fact, I finished the car just in time for the FINALE of Simply Clean (the best show in FL History-IDC-hands down-don’t @ me lol). Like a movie, there I was lined up with my friends from South FL with my dream car.

Anyways-Why am I telling you all of this, because it was a wonderful chapter of my life, and in order to fully appreciate the end, you have to understand the beginning. I had her mostly the same for a few years, then added some bars, changed all my accents to Porsche Irish Green, ceramic coated it like 10x, and by 2022/2023, I was out of ideas, and over the limitations. It had been a beautiful build while I was getting my law degree and didn’t have much time to focus on a car, but I was getting bored. It was an older car so it didn’t have all the get up and go as newer cars do, and I had a new dream bubbling (but we’ll talk about that later).

Late 2023 we decided to travel to Japan to pick up a car we had just purchased, on my birthday. After booking-we realized that we were going to be staying at the ICONIC Fuji Speedway Hotel on the exact day of the Supra Owners Meet-ON MY BIRTHDAY! This day was so fulfilling it felt like a dream. From the beautiful mountain colors, the way the sky and Mount Fuji and the Racetrack all met to form this beautiful backdrop straight out of my most JDM DREAMS! It was so complete that I knew it was time to end the chapter. There was never going to be a better Supra experience, and what a perfect end to an important period of my life.

Note: The next day was Rs day and that may explain my next decision… 😉
